Vids That Make You Go Hmmmmm . . .

#engchat #edchat #mbedu

Last week I went to a great PD evening, where we watched and rated short videos.  The guidelines for video selection were:
  • 3 minutes or less
  • should have educational application
  • fewer that have seen it the better

And generally the videos fell into a category of : inspiring, fascinating, jaw dropping, courageous, beautiful, informative, funny.

I thought it be interesting to try this in our class.  So here we go!

Today's Theme: Inspiring- Words of Advice

We are going to watch both videos as a class. Once the video is done, you are going to add your thoughts to the comment space below. Which video did you find more inspiring? Why? What are your words of advice?

I found the Kid president video most inspirational because it had a pretty good sense of humor that people of all ages can enjoy. I think its true that people do need to say something nice to someone more often, it would make other people feel better about themselves and even yourself (:

Kid President was more inspiring for me. It was basically telling people the right thing to say and if u can't say the right thing you are a terrible person. "Write some more music"

I think that the 20 things that people need to say more often was more inspiring. Even though they were both inspiring I think that the 20 things was just way more funny and interesting as well. It's just so true we all do need to say more thank you, please and I forgive you more. And that kid is so right sometimes we just need to scream and just let everything out. I think the world would be a better place if we all said those things more. I think the one thing that list is missing though Is we all need to say I love you more to people because the world could use a whole or more over.

I liked the Kid President's more. It was so adorable but also inspiring. I think this video is easy for people to learn from and appreciate because it is a child speaking. The things he said were so simple but still uncommon sometimes. I think everyone could find something from this video that they don't say enough or say too much. Sometimes it's just the little things that count.

I found the kid president video to be more inspirational. Many say "if you don't have anything nice to say dont say anything at all". But I loved when the kid said "if you don't have anything to say... you're not thinking hard enough." I love this quote and I think that saying something nice is WAY better then saying nothing at all.

I didn't find either video particularly inspiring, however I enjoyed both videos. I liked the second video, Kid President better because it was funnier and I agreed with the message. I think everyone needs to watch what they say more often and there's things that we should say to make others feel better. A simple compliment can go a long way and make someones day.

I liked the kid president video more because kids are so adorable. He had a lot of good points, even though some were silly. He was right about making each other feel good because we love them. Also, corn dogs are good (occasionally, anyways). All of his points were true and relatable, but in a cute way. Mostly, it was just a cute and inspiring video that makes you think. I also enjoyed the quote video because it was cool to see how people think; what quote they chose really reflected their outlook on life.

Words of advice: You can put your heart and soul into something, but it's still okay to leave it if it's not working out. Eg: relationships, jobs, project

KIDS THOUGH. SO CUTE.

I thought the kid video was more inspiring because when I watched it I actually stopped the work I was doing and watched it. I loved the humor in it and I feel humor is a great way tho get a point across and the little kid really did get his point across. if everyone in this world was more like that little kid we have a whole lot of happy corn dog eating people, and who knows maybe thats what our wrld needs a little more of...

Unknown said...

I liked the "20 things we should say more often" because it was much more humorous than the first video and more appealing. I think we should say all the things he told us to say more especially the corn dog one because I like corn dogs.

I think that the Kid President video was more inspiring because it had a kid giving the inspiration. I think that people are more inclined to be inspired by little children, because they are so little and happy all the time, they must know the key to being happy. They're also so cute, it's hard to not listen to them when they're giving advice like that. All of the things he listed that need to be said more often are true. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind getting a corn dog from someone every once in a while, if only to prove how much they care.

I loved the Kid President video. i found it to be so inspiring because i think all the things he said, we could use more of in our lives. It was such a funny video and i feel that i can say i 100% agree with it as well. Its definitely true that people need to say more nice things to one another and to just help people out every once in while as well as saying the little things that matter the most.

I enjoyed the Kid President video and thought it was the more inspiring of the two. The young boy makes such an impact with his words, the way he shares something so simple that any person could do but is completely filled with truth, makes you want to get up and try the same. I also enjoyed the video of the quote wall, I liked that many people had the same idea that inspired them, love, hope and smiling. A smile can really change someone's day and I think we should try everyday to make a difference in someone's life.

The kid presidents video was much more effective and much more inspiring to me, not because of the little kid (granted he is pretty silly) but because on a certain level, we don't use these expressions enough and when we use them, we don't use them sincerely, I think words like "your welcome" and "thank you" should be used with more meaning and feeling rather than just expressions used in the English language.

The Kid President was super cute, and brought up a lot of good points about how we should speak to each other to make our lives better. I love the idea of the "Wall Of Words". It's great to see so many people come together to share their words of wisdom with the world. I would love to see a "Wall of Words" here.
One thing I think we say too often is "sorry". It's good to say sorry within context, like if I accidentally punched you in the face. But now we apologize for things like being ourselves, which is sort of ridiculous. You shouldn't have to be sorry for being who you are.

I liked the Kid President video a lot. Kids have a very different perspective than adults so I thought this video was a really good idea. The kid wasn't worried about much, the main idea was just to be nice to each other. It's not very complicated and a very easy thing to do! I think we need to focus on the simple things like that more often.

i liked the first video better. I found it more inspiring because hearing all the other peoples quotes made me think of some of my own sayings and quotes. It just made me more inspired then the other video.

I found the Kid president video of the 20 things we should say more often to be inspiring because at the end of the day, little words that might not mean a lot to you, can mean a lot to someone else. I feel as a society we sometimes forget to notice the people and things around us because we're so busy in our own little world. Just a simple "Please" or "Thank You" can make someone feel appreciated and it's very important to remember that you can be the difference in someone's day.

Unknown said...

I definitely liked the Kid president video better. I found that it made me a whole lot happier than the first one. I did like the first video because I like to hear peoples reasoning to why they have favourite quotes but I did enjoy the other one more. I think that if the message comes from a child, it makes more of an impact. Like if a child is saying positive things, than we can definitely too. I agree that there are more things we should say because I do think that saying things simply like ''thankyou'' and ''you're welcome,'' can easily make someone's day.

I liked the kid president video better. I didnt really find either video inspiring but the kid president video was funny and conveyed a good message which is something to be admired. And even though I didnt find the video inspiring I could see that video inspiring some one else. And just the fact that the video isn't just something superficial or pointless like a fight video or cat video is helping towards a more cultured society.

I felt like the video Wall of Words video was more inspiring, although the Kid Presidents one was funny it didn't 'inspire' me. The Wall of Words video showed the perspective of many different people which helped to get many different messages across. It also had an under-laying message of togetherness about it, which is something that can be very inspiring.

Unknown said...

Personally, the wall of words video was more inspiring for me than the video with the little kid. While the little kid was amusing and humorous, he did not really inspire me. Also with the wall of words, I like the idea of multiple people sharing their wisdom to inspire others. Sure, every phrase did not "wow" me. But it made me think "If I had to give one piece advice to future generations, what would I say?" Overall the wall of words video was the most inspiring video for me.

I find both of these videos inspiring. It’s hard to choose which one is more so. On one hand, Kid President is adorable and I think he knows what’s up for common things we should say more often, in my opinion. On the other hand, A Wall of Words is amazing with the sheer number of strangers coming together to share their favourite quotes with everyone else. I think the Wall of Words one would have to be more inspiring to me. This is because it’s what meaningful coming from all these different people makes it unique. My favourite quotes would be from the Kid President “life is tough, but you’re tougher” and also one I heard a while ago, “If you’re going through hell, just keep going.” I love quotes about life and strength and sometimes the silly ones like offering people corn dogs, also from the Kid President.

I really enjoyed both videos. They both had a different way to be inspirational but the Kid President one did have more an effect on me. I enjoyed listening to his ideas and seeing/hearing the little things we can do and change our habits. He was entertaining which kept me listening, and wanting to hear what he had to say next, he made many good points were I thought I should do that or why didn't I think of that.

Unknown said...

I didn't find either videos inspiring, but I definitely enjoyed both. I love humor, so if I had to choose one I'd lean towards the kid president one. It had a bigger impact on me with the humor. I think some of the things he said are definitely true. I think we should say nice things to people more often.

Unknown said...

I really enjoyed the President video. He was adorable and did a great job with getting his point across but I also found it inspiring. I was easily interested because a little kid was speaking. All the people that have watched this video were probably laughing at his humour but were also agreeing with everything he was saying.

I enjoyed both videos, but I thought the quote wall one a lot. I personally have quotes that make sense to my own life. I liked in that video that there were different kinds of people of all ages saying which quote they like the best. Also, every quote has a story behind it and it's cool to see interviews of people to see why an individual remembers a specific quote.

Unknown said...

I personally find the Kid President video much more inspiring because of the fact that it came from a kid. If a kid can think that way, and know the difference between right and wrong when it comes to how to speak to and treat people there is no excuses for anyone else. He shows that it doesnt have to be huge gestures, just little things, and that its those small things that count the most. Also I think the humor that was included made the video memorable.
I don't believe I have any of my own words of advice, I've never really been good with words.

I really found the kid president video to be more enjoying than the share your quote video, and while both were great I find inspirational videos to be more grasping when humour is involved as it is the small things we remember.

Casey raback said...

the most simple thing you can say to some one you don't know is "excuse me".

I absolutely love the Kid President video! Other than the fact that he's super adorable and hilarious, he also made a lot of really good points. The one that was about "[looking] at the barbecue sauce on your own shirt" reminded me of a certain Bible verse. This verse talks about not trying to take a speck out of your brothers eye before taking out the plank in your own eye. Basically, deal with your issues before pointing out the issues of someone else. Anyway, he was pretty much spot on for all of them(:

I think I liked the "Kid President" video more because of how cute it was. I also liked how it shows that everyone really needs to show how much they appreciate the people that are close to them. I really do like the "Wall of Quotes" video because I really like the idea of the wall of quotes in public and why people put the particular quotes. I also have a lot of quotes on my phone that are just for me, and that I can relate too! I really think people should tell the people close to them that they appreciate them!

Kid President! Kids have a certain way of pointing out things about our society that suddenly are so obvious you can't believe you didn't notice them before. Maybe it has to do with how they haven't lived long enough to accept these things as normal, so they question them. The wall of words was pretty cool, but for me, walking past a wall full of the things that inspire people would be less uplifting than having a stranger say something nice or thought-provoking to me. I probably wouldn't take the time to read too many of the quotes, to be honest.

Words of advice that kind of relate to the videos: Spend more time around kids. Even if you don't like kids. They teach you so much, sometimes without even realizing it.

Unknown said...

I think that the best video and the most inspiring video was the second one because the kid had a unique personality which made it more interesting and amusing. I think this video is better then the first one because its from a kid's perspective and he talks about how just a small act of kindness can make a big impact in someones life. One quote that I really enjoy from tumblr is "People who hide their feelings usually care the most".

i found both videos inspiring but the quote wall was probably the most inspiring to me because it shows that each person has a quote that makes them feel inspired and feel happy and the thought that everyone was expressing what inspires them on a wall that everyone else could see. my favorite quote is" a sword wields no strength unless the hand that holds it has courage "

Unknown said...

I found the quote wall an awesome way to spread the thoughts and opinions of people who don't know each other. I myself have many things i would love to share to just anyone walking by and i think the quote wall made it a fun way for anyone of any age, race, or gender to participate. A lot of what the people were saying was true and were things that i could apply to my own life. I also enjoyed the variety of people they used because its advice from people your age, and people who have lived double your life. I think theres a lot you can learn from almost anyone and i found the quote wall a great and fun way to do so.

I preferred the Kid President video, personally. It has an element of humor and the cuteness of a young child, as well as inspiring words, which I felt added significantly to the video. Not only this, but hearing words of wisdom come from a child is an eye-opener as he says things that many adults can learn from, which is especially effective coming from a child.
There are a lot of quotes that I like, and one of my favourites is quite simply Carpe Diem: Seize the day. It's a reminder that the past is gone and we shouldn't dwell on it, and the future is uncertain and will take care of itself as it comes. Today, however, we make the choice of who we are.

I personally like both videos a lot for different reasons! The Kid President video grabbed my attention right away because he was so cute and entertaining. And you can never go wrong with a funny video. I really liked the idea of the Wall of Words video because I have so many of my own quotes that I have kept together that pertain to my own life that I would love to add to the wall. I would have to say that I found the Wall of Words video more inspiring especially with them interviewing the people and them explaining the story to why that's they're favourite quote.

Unknown said...

I liked both of the videos but I liked the A Wall of Words video because the quotes that people put on the wall and their stories behind it and what it means to them.

Unknown said...

I like the "Kid President" video because he was getting somewhere saying how you can always be nice to someone just by saying "hey hows it going". Just saying that will make someones day and make them happy.
I liked the video a lot because he made me laugh because what he was saying was very true.

The kid president was more Inspiron because when a child is acting his age but spreading a message that only adults can under stand is huge. It says that if some one of that if a kid can go around spreading this message the least we can do is listen because he takes the time to understand it only makes sense that we do to. My words of advice are that you decide your limits. If you decide to work harder than everyone you go do it. It will take you places you've never dreamed.

"kid president" caught my attention more because it touched my heart that a kid of his age was explaining what people should do to make the world a better place for everyone .
my last words of advice are , treat people the way you wanna be treated .

I enjoyed the kid president video more because of how innocent this kid is and how it was also funny. Everything about that video was right, how we need to humble ourselves more and put others first sometimes. The other video was also interesting,to see how people think.
My words of advice are to do all things with love.
