Blogging Fieldtrip

#engchat #blogging

I would like you to visit 3 classmates blogs, and leave meaningful and significant comments that encourage a discussion. When you leave a comment, I want you to cut and copy the page specific blog address/URL and post it in your blog as a post.  As part of your post, explain what and why you commented on.

You should end up with something that looks like this:

http://jeninesbookloversblog.blogspot.ca/2012/10/my-6-word-memoir-5.html?showComment=1350915352053#c8167084679061721461

The first comment I posted was on Jenine's blog. Her drawing with a six word memoir on it caught my eye and made me read on to her explanation. It got me thinking of how complex horses are. There aren't many other sports that involve animals and how many different things horses are used for is incredible. It's weird that humans, who are smaller than horses, can have such control and power over something so large. It also got me thinking of other animals and the relationship you can have with them. Sometimes it's so powerful that when you lose them, it takes a toll on you. Animals can become good companions. I wonder what variety of companions there are out there? What is the weirdest pet there is? I think from commenting on Jenine's post, I stopped thinking of technology and friends for once and focused on something that may not get enough attention when we're caught up in our daily lives; animals.

Twitter Fiction To Do:

#engchat #twitterfiction

Despite the fact that we are writing different types of twitter Fiction, with different plot lines, we can ensure that we have some basic writing element in common:

- You must have at least 20 Tweets worth of story
- You can write a VSS or a multi-Tweet story, Fiction based on Fiction, or a combination thereof
- *One example of; visual, auditory, kinesthetic, smell and taste imagery.
- *Three Tweets worth of Character Development
- *Two Tweets worth of Dialogue
- *One Tweet with a clear "So What"
- *Five original Twitter pics to accompany your fiction

The elements listed with a * accompanying them, with be discussed in class via mini lessons.
Please keep in mind that the above listed amounts are minimums, I encourage you to use these elements freely (but with purpose) to tell your stories.

Our Next Writing Project: Twitter Fiction

#engchat #twitterfiction #mbedu

Our next writing project as a class is going to be Twitter Fiction! As we've seen there are three basic types of Twitter Fiction:

(1) THE VSSAS- The "Very Short Stand Alone Story", is one story in 140 characters or less. Beginning, middle, end, all in one tweet.

examples here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/booksblog/2012/oct/15/twitter-fiction-your-stories

(2) The Extended Story- One story, told through a series of tweets, but still limited to 140 characters per tweet.

example here:
http://russet-one-wing.blogspot.ca/

(3)The Fiction Inspired by Fiction Story- Have a favorite book or character?  This type of Twitter Fiction allows you to clarify, build on, on exted a pre-exsiting fictional storyline.

Example:

Follow @narrator18 on Twitter and read the interweaving Twitter Fiction storyline @christinabaland created based on a pre- existing novel.

So which type of story are you going to tell?

(1) I want you to sign up for/create a "Professional" Twitter account.

(2) Follow Cre8tiveHavoc on Twitter

(3) Follow @narrator18 and read the interweaving Twitter Fiction storyline @christinabaland created based on a pre- existing novel.

(4) Explore the Twitter Fiction written by the students from last semester's CW class.

(5) At the end of class, come back to this post and add a comment containing:
- your professional Twitter account name
- your comments. reactions, likes, dislikes of the genre of Twiter Fiction

Weekly Reflection #5

This week's Reading Reflection is just as you would expect it to be:

Reading Reflection (250 Words)
Remember to start your post with:

Reading Reflection #8

Book: Lone Wolf
Author: Jodi Picoult
Pages Read: 74-130
And fill your reflection with the usual questions, comments, predictions, connections, etc . . .

Also, we haven't had a chance to debrief about Newpspaper Blackout Poetry so your Writing Reflection will focus on this and be about 250 words in length this week:

Topics to discuss:

- Discuss the process of writing Newpaper Blackout Poetry. How did it go for you? What were some of the challenges and successes?

- What was unique about this way of writing (compared to the other types of writing we've done this semester?)

- What did you learn about yourself as a reader/writer/thinker?

- Other comments about this style of writing
